Both the Air Ensign and the Civil Air Ensign are light blue with the national flag in canton and with an emblem in the fly: Air Force uses its aircraft marking, while the civil air ensign has a black star.

Ghana Air Force was formed on Oct. 1959, and adopted a “classic” green-yellow-red roundel and a black star as fin flash (as seen at the Sky Tamer website).

The 1964 change in flag brought a similar change in the roundel, now green-white-red with same fin flash (as seen at the Sky Tamer website).

Re-introducing of the previous flag in 1966, brought back the original roundel, this time with national flag as fin-flash (as seen at the Sky Tamer website and in Wheeler’s book [whe86]).

According to [cos98], until 1966 on the fin of the airplanes black star was used, but since 1966 the national flag is painted.
